Let's take a closer look at the story....

As you listened to the story, you should have heard many words that rhymed. These words all had different sounds at the beginning of the word but the same ending sound. Let's take a look at the few rhyming words we heard!

Well Edward was really enjoying the day,
Till he overheard someone behind the fence say.

Notice that the words day and say rhyme. They both have the same ending sound. Here is another example from the book.

A Lion's a beast I shall always detest,
The snakes are the things I like to see best.

In this example detest and best rhyme. Listen closely to the ending of the words. Now let's look another rhyme from the story.

The seals are always amusing, it's true,
But the lion's the best thing to see at the zoo.

In this example the rhyming words have the same ending sound but are not spelled the same. True and zoo rhyme even though they are spelled differently.
