El Futuro
Hola y Bienvenidos! Today we are going to work with the Future Tense in Spanish. Remember there are two types of future, the near and the distant. The near future is used to talk about something that could occur tomorrow or next week. The distant future is used to speak about something that could occur 6 months or 6 years from now. Oddly enough there are two types of future tense in Spanish. They are IR +A + the Infinitive and the Future Tense. First let us take a look at what our objectives are for this activity.

Our Learning Objectives for this activity are:
1.We will recognize the future tense in simple audio phrases.
2. We will use the future tense to express comprehension of a reading passage.
3. We will use the future tense to narrate an upcoming trip to Spain.

What is IR +A + the Infinitive? We use this form of the future to speak about the near future. IR means "to go" and in the present tense it is conjugated as:

 Ellos, Ellas, Uds.:

IR + A+ the Infintive expresses something you are going to do. For example:


 "I am going(IR) to(A) go(Infinitive) to the movies" or "She is going(IR) to(a) call(Infinitive)  the doctor". In Spanish this looks like...
   "Yo voy a ir al cine"                                                       "Ella va a llamar el doctor"


The Future Tense expresses something that will happen. For example:



"I will go to the movies" or    "She will call the doctor"
"Yo ire al cine"               o      "Ella llamara el doctor"

Remember you do not need to conjugate the verb in the future tense. Unless irregular all you need to add is the ending to the infintive of the verb. For example:



Infinitive: To look: Mirar: to say "I will look", take Mirar and add the "yo" ending for the future tense. You are left with "Mirare"
