The article, “Schools, teachers behind in technology use” addresses the issue of schools embracing technology. Most schools have only one computer for every five students. Many teachers do not use technology to its fullest potential. Some schools cite there reasoning for lack of technology as a money issue. They feel that there is not enough money in the budget to fund technology. However, with No Child Left Behind Act of 2002 schools are expected to reallocate their funds so that technology is possible. Schools should have adequate technology available to teachers, administrators, and students. I agree with the article that students seem to be moving much quicker with technology than schools and teachers are. With the newest group of internet users in 2000-2002 being between the age of 2 and 5, schools need to knowledgeable about technology. Schools must not only have the technology available, they must know how to use it so that it will be most beneficial. Technology should be integrated into classrooms and teaching. Teachers should also use technology to be able to communicate with teachers through class websites and other forms of technology. Technology must be a school-wide effort with the support of everyone for it to really be useful. |
