Simple Future Tense

Learning Target:

  1. I can express the future tense in Spanish.
  2. I can write a sentence using the simple future tense.

The future tense expresses what one is going to do.

For example in English we would say, I am going to study Spanish.

In Spanish we use the following formual to create the future tense.

            Ir + a + infinitive verb

We already know that the verb "ir" is irregular.  Fill in the following conjugation form.
Yo            Nosotros

Tú             Vosotros
Èl               Ustedes

We then add our preposition "a" ...

               Yo voy a...                     Nosotros/as vamos a...
               Tú vas a...                     Vosotros/as vais a...
               Él/Ella va a...                Ellos/Ellas van a...
Usted va a...                  Ustedes van a...

We will now state what one is going to do.  Use your prior knowledge of Spanish vocabulary to complete the following.

          I am going to run.

         You are going to sing.
        He is going to skate.
              We are going to eat.
You all are going to dance.
      They are going to walk.

Now that you have practiced, go to the vocabulary section and study the verbs. When you are done, return to this page and describe what people are going to do using the picture.
