Elizabeth Matrician
Mini Project 3
Goals and Objectives
1. SWBAT- Compare and contrast a soliloquy and a prologue.
2. SWBAT- Identify different types of plays.
3. SWBAT- Define different features of plays. (ex.
protagonist, scene, tradgedy etc.)
Rationale:
Romeo and Juliet, like all of
Shakespeare's work, is
difficult to understand for native speakers as well as English language
learners. English classes will have unit on Shakespearian
plays,
I thought this webiste could be used in addition to their
classes.
There are mulitple words and word
phrases that have
been glossed for students. In addition, there are questions
that
look different parts of the play Romeo and Juliet at a basic
level. By doing this, students can overlook all of the
descriptive extras and understand what the point of the passage
is.
The first two pages present an
introduction to plays
as well as an introduction to Romeo and Juliet. Multiple
characters are highlighted with brief descriptions of the roles they
take in the play. Also specific features of plays have been
identified such as how to refer to a play (scene, act, line), some
types of plays (comedies, tradgedies, and musicals), and the type of
characters in the play (protagonist, antagonist).
Shakespeare seems to have mulitple soliloquy's and prologues throughout
all of his plays (like other playwrights) so that is why I choose to
focus on the prologue and the soliloquy.
There is a section of context
clues. The words
have been choosen because they do occur in the play (specifically act
1). Even though the website does not account for all of act
one
(and the soliloquy - perhaps the most famous is not in act one) the
website is to be used in addition to their classes. It is
possible that the students may have already finished reading the play
and need extra practice.
At the end of the webiste, there is a
quiz that
students can fill out and then print (or vice versa) that compares the
two excerpts and asks additional question regarding other parts of the
play, such as major themes (contrasting ideas [Montagues and Capulets]
and [love and hate] etc.)
In reagards to how the webiste is set up
I have
decided to make each page link only to the table of contents and to the
previous and next pages. I want the students to follow a
specific
pattern that ends with the quiz so that way the material flows
(especially in the case of the excerpt and then the next page "what it
really said") in a linear pattern but they do have the ability to
access all of the pages through the table of contents.
