*Reading Reflection # 2*

Article One:

Educational Technology Standard number three states that “teachers implement curriculum plans, that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning.” I think that this is extremely important that teachers be able to use technology to help their students learn. Children are becoming more computer savvy and when correctly implemented into the classroom environment, they can be great teaching tools.

<>     Children are intrigued with technology. They want to use computers, and if you use them in your teaching you will be educating students in a fun, interactive way. I think that teaching with technology is a great way for educators to teach to a variety of learning styles. There are many forms of technology that are great for visual learners; overhead projectors, elmo, and computers. Computers are also good for auditory learners. Children who learn best through hands on interactive activities will benefit from using the over head projector and the mouse and keyboard on a computer.
Overall students learn best when they want to learn. Bringing in different teaching tools, different forms of technology, into your classroom will keep students “on their toes” and ready and willing to learn.

Article Two:

Technology Foundation Standard number six is based on “technology problem-solving and decision-making tools.” I think that using technology to help students make informed decisions is a great way to introduce and teach challenging topics. When students are able to research material on their own the may end up learning a lot more than they would have if they were forced to ask questions out loud in class in front of their classmates. For example a student may not want to ask the teacher a question because they think it is a “stupid” question. By being able to get on the internet or other research engines they will be able to look up information for themselves.

Already in this class we have used technology as a way to help solve real world problems. By having students create their own biomes they will be researching about specific areas, learning about the environmental problems and finding solutions. Students are also able to show their classmates, family members and friends their work, which can help bring the important people in their lives more involved in their school work.
