The best part of the trip is that you get to stay
with a host family and learn about how the people of Don Juan really
live. Many of the houses do not have running water and depend on
water reservoirs that collect and distill rain water. The electricity
also gets cut off often. Imagine trying to sleep in 80 degree heat with
no fan on you! The houses are very small, but the people make do with
what they have, and are VERY proud of their homes. Walking down
the street, we often were invited in to see the homes of the locals,
almost as if we were part of their families.
