The Present Subjunctive  

Los pasos de los verbos regulares:

    1. Start with the yo form of the present indicative - hablo/como
    2. Then drop the -o ending - habl/com
    3. Finally, add the following endings:
            -ar verbs:  e, es, e, emos, éis, en - hable
            -er and -ir verbs: a, as, a, amos, áis, an - coma

Ella (recordar):                         Step 1     Step 2     Step 3  
Answer: recuerde

Yo (comer):                              Step 1     Step 2     Step 3
Answer: coma

Nosotros (vivir):                        Step 1     Step 2     Step 3 
Answer: vivamos

The subjunctive is used when the first clause of the sentence introduces an element of uncertainty or subjectivity.

        The following is a list of some clauses commonly used with the subjunctive:

                después (de) que ...                                                        no estar seguro de que ...

                es importante que ...                                                     ojalá que ...
                it's important that ...                                                          if only he would ...

                it's unlikely that ...                                                             to recommend that ...
