Project #10
Over
the semseter we have learned alot of different aspects of technology
that I didn't know about. Being able to learn how to create a
web-site was something that I always wanted to do, I just didn't think
that it would be as difficult as it was. Learning to work through
the kinks and not get upset was a challange for me. Most of the
time when something goes wrong with my computer I end up yelling at it
and pounding the keys a little harder. Because of this class I am
able to look to my computer and figure out what might be going wrong.
Learning how to use Nvu was fun, I liked being able to create
something of my own and have it be viewed on the internet. Trying
to figure out the WS_FTP was a challenge. Trying to figure out
what you needed to transfer over, and how to fix a problem if the page
wasn't showing up was a pain. Once I got used to the concepts at
hand I became more confident and feel that I would be able to teach my
students some things with the computer.
There was one moment that I was very proud of myself. It was when
I finished the title page to my web-site and was able to publish it.
I was so excited that I called my parents and told them about the
web-site and had them go look at it. I was excited to have them
be able to see what I was doing in school. Getting their imput it
very important to me, and knowing that they could let me know in one
aspect of my schooling made me happy. Granted this was a good
experience I had many difficult experiences. Trying to get the
computer to go along with what you wanted to do was a challenge.
There were times when I would have my homepage loaded up on one
computer and it would work really well, then there was the other times
when it would be off completely. I don't like the fact that I
never know what my title page to my web-site is going to look like.
I felt that with this class working in small groups was difficult.
You had to be able to transfer one page to the other persons
computer and half the time I was lucky if I was able to get it to work.
I also feel that because we were working on computers there was
one person that did most of the work. I was lucky to have my
partner. With what she didn't know i knew and what I didn't know
she knew. We were able to work as a team. Working in a
group was a nice change to having to work alone. But I think that
the projects that were worked on as a team should have been split up.
One person do a project for their page and the other person links
their page to their partners. This would have been easier then
trying to get each seperate page to transfer to the other computer.
This caused a lot of hassle and frustration.
For my classroom as a teacher I would like to be able to have computers
for every student. Most kids are scared of the computer when they
come to school for the first time. I think that if you start them
off early more students will understand more about the computers.
I grew up getting a computer in the 4th grade. I may
pretend to know what I'm doing but half the time I'm just clicking
buttons and probably getting myself into more trouble. I want the
students to be able to navigate a computer and the internet, as well as
learn to use some to the programs that we have learned in class this
year. Each year I would like to have a class web-site. This
way parents would be able to check and see what the kids are doing each
week. I would help along side of the students but this would be
their project. I think that having them learn how to work these
programs will give them a heads up against the other stuents.
