The reason we use "estar" is because it means "to be."
In English, you do not say "I running and he running too."
Instead, a proper way to say this is: I am running and he is running too.
Next, you must conjugate the verb into the "ing" ending.
-ER verbs --> drop the "er" and add "iendo"
Example: comer = "estar" + comiendo
Ella está comiendo.
She is eating.
-IR verbs --> drop the "ir" and add "iendo"
Example: vivir = "estar" + viviendo
Ellos están viviendo.
They are living.
-AR verbs --> drop the "ar" and add "ando"
