A Common Misconception About Cinco de Mayo

Many people believe that Cinco de Mayo (the fifth of May) is Mexico's independence day, but

Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexico's Independence
day!

Mexico celebrates its independence day on September 16th, not May 5th.

On the 5th of May, the Mexican Army defeated the French in the Battle of Puebla (1862).

Today, as you probably know, the Cinco de Mayo is also celebrated in the United States.  It is a great time to have fun and celebrate
our neighbors to the south!
