Food Groups


There are 5 different food groups.  You should eat out of every food group each day.  There is also a group for oils and fats.  There are your sweets that you should only eat every once in a while.





GRAINS

The grain groups includes foods such as bread, tortillas, oatmeal, rice, and popcorn

VEGETABLES

   The vegetable group contains foods such as corn, tomatoes, peas, carrots.
    Different vegetables may be cooked or eaten raw.

FRUITS

   strawberries        peaches


When eating from the fruit group it can be a piece of fruit or fruit juice.  An example would be orange juice, apples, mangos, or grapefruit juice.

MILK


DAIRY

   frozen yogurt    skim milk

  The milk group contains food that are products of milk.  Foods such as cheese, yogurt, milk, and ice cream are in this group.

MEATS AND BEANS

MEAT

     meat    black beans

   The meat and beans group contains many different foods.  Beef, chicken, fish, dry beans, almonds, or pork are examples of foods that would be in this group.
