Parts of Government



There are three types of government that we will discuss:

Congress- one of the three parts of government where people write and vote for laws
     The two parts of Congress are the Senate and the House of Representatives.  The people that are in Congress are typically voted on to be in there.

Supreme Court- A group of nine people that decide if laws are fair and if they are broken
    Supreme Court Justices, or judges, live their term as long as desired.  The public will vote on who will be the next judge or the President will decide if it is not announced before the election.  Currently, the nine judges include two women, one of which just recently because a Supreme Court Justice.  She is the first Latin America women to be on the Supreme Court.

President- The leader of our country
    Barack Obama is our current president.  He became our president in the election of 2008.  He will be the president for at least 4 years.  The President may run for two terms of four years each. Barack Obama is the first African American president.
