Reading Reflection 3

In the article Teaching with Technology by Simon Hooper and Lloyd Rieber it discusses technology in the classroom.  They say in the article that if a teacher from 50 years ago would come into a classroom today they would be right at home.  I believe this comment to be untrue.  Although there are some schools who have not caught up with every new technology many have.   In college classrooms there are typically computers that are hooked up to a large screen and elmo.  Many public schools now have this as well.  Students can then present information on a PowerPoint to the class.  Teachers also can present information off their computer or show the class a worksheet without having it on a transparency.  This is something a teacher from 50 years ago would not be familiar with.  This and other technologies have helped to improve the quality of education.  Students have new ways of finding out information by using the internet instead of library books.  In classrooms there are generally computers so students can use them for research and to create projects.  By using technology in the classroom it gives students another way to learn new information besides for reading from a textbook.  You can use a PowerPoint presentation, show video clips from the internet, look up information online, include virtual games in your activity, and have students use Microsoft Word to type papers.  Technology is always changing.  Since I was in high school they have put in new systems in the classrooms.  When I was there one computer would be hooked up to a TV to show a Powerpoint, where now they project them on the wall and  have elmos to show papers or books.  It has only been 4 years that I have been out of high school and already it has changed technology wise.  When I have my own classroom I plan to use all the technologies I have mentioned.  Students will get assignments such as webquests where they will use technology to learn.  There are also many interactive websites which I will have student go.  I will use integrate technology as much as possible in my classroom because I feel it is important and need to be a part of society today.
