Reading Reflection 4

After visiting the website Multimedia in the ClassroomI felt I had more ideas and information about Multimedia.  There are many definitions of multimedia.  This site defines it as the integration of text, graphics, animation, sound and/or video.  There are also many reasons to use multimedia in the classroom.  One the website suggested that I feel is important is that they learn real-world skills that are related to technology.  This is very true because there are few jobs that do not require the basic knowledge of technology.  Students not only will use it in school, but outside of school at any age.  Another important thing for students to learn is teamwork.  This again is something they need as a life skill.  You need to be able to work with others in school, on the job, or in daily life.  Students will learn collaboration techniques when working in a group.  Students will see the importance of the different types of multimedia and their impacts on their life and on the world as it relies more and more on technology.  Other things students can learn are: the challenges of communicating to different audiences, how to present information, techniques for synthesizing and analyzing complex; content, how to express their ideas creatively, and there are many more beyond these.  The steps for implementing multimedia activities are decide, design, deliver, and evaluate.  First you must decide on revalent standards, appropriateness, learning outcomes, and assessment.  Second is design.  The teacher must determine the grouping strategy and roles, length and duration of activity, look at available software, and design a lesson plan with the multimedia.  The third step is to deliver.  There needs to be media development skills, classroom management and configuration, and facilitation of multimedia activities.  The last step is to evaluate by having student checklists, evaulation options, and reflections and revisions.  All these steps are very important in implementing multimedia in a classroom.
