This
game is fun to play at school with friends, or at home with your
family! One student starts a sentence by saying only one word. Then
another student must say a word which continues the sentence.
Next, a third student must continue. This goes on, until someone
says a word that does not fit syntactically or grammatically. If the
sentence comes to a logical end without error, the next student may say
"period" and begin a new sentence with a new word.

Hangman: This game can be played in the classroom with the students divided into two teams, or with the students in small group pairs. Hangman is a great way to help students make words while interacting with their peers in a fun way. If playing as a whole class divide the students into two teams. On the blackboard, draw spaces for the number of letters in a word. Have the players guess letters in the word alternating between the teams. If a letter in the word is guessed correctly, one designated player writes it into the correct space. If a letter is guessed which is not in the word, the same designated player draws part of the man being hanged. The team which can guess the word first receives a point, then start the game over. If playing in pairs, each group of students will use a small dry erase board to play with their teamate, each student will alternate between creating the word and guessing the letters in the word the other student created until one of the students win. | |||||
Fly Swat: First divide class into two groups. Then choose two students, ask them to go to the back of the classroom, and have them turn around so their backs are facing the class. Twemty vocabulary words will be displayed on the blackboard and ten of the words will have "flies" (cardboard cutouts with velcro) pasted over them. Both students are then given a fly swatter with the other side of the velcro on it. The objective for the game is that the teacher will say a word and the two players will turn around and run to "swat the fly" (the word on the board that has the "fly" over it.) The student who "kills" the fly has to spell the word and then he/she will score a point for their team. With the fly swatter and the velcro flies, you can invent many different variations to this game, you can also make it more difficult or easier based on the students levels. This is also a great game for students to play at home with their families. |
