Every story has a sequence, or an order of events, that tell us what is happening.
Every story has a beginning, a middle, and an end.
Sometimes, there's even an unexpected surprise!
Sequence words are words that help us understand the order of events that are happening in the story. They
tell us things like what happened first, what happened next, and what happened that was unexpected. Think of them as signal words that help us identify the next event in a story and the end of a story.
Without sequence words,
reading a story would be confusing because we wouldn't be able to
picture what is happening in our heads in the right order. And that wouldn't be fun!
