Project #10
This is a reflection on what we have learned in
EDU314: Teaching with Computers. I
entered this class doubting that there was much more I needed to know about
computers that would be useful for me when I become a teacher, but I was
instantly proven wrong. This class has
taught me about many programs that I did not know even existed such as Nvu,
wsftp, and photo story 3 for windows. It
also helped me to expand my current knowledge of programs such as, Microsoft
PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Publisher. I learned many things that I feel will be
very helpful and valuable once I become a teacher to help my students to become
successful and to keep up with their technological skills. I really enjoyed learning how to make a
webpage and how to add my own touch to it.
There were many challenges to this project though. If you did not link the correct thing, or you
did not publish a specific part and it didn’t show up when you went to preview
your page you patience was tested. This
class required both individual work as well as group work. Four out of our ten
projects that we have worked on over this semester were group projects; they
included a brochure for Math Day, creation of a elementary school website, as
well as the creation of a web quest, as well as a PowerPoint virtual fieldtrip. Individually we created our website, made a
word search, and got to make a photo story.
I feel that working in small groups is helpful learning wise, but it can
be hard to get a project done when you don’t all have the same schedule and
find it hard to meet up to work on it. I
feel that in my future teaching group work will be very much a part of my
teaching philosophy. I think it is important
for children to get used to it when they are young because they will have to be
dealing with it throughout their lives also.
Overall this was a very helpful course that will help me in my future
teaching endeavors to make my classes challenging but also fun for my students.
