NETS For Teachers Standards

II. Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences

I feel that this learning standard is a very important part of the curriculum for many reasons.  It forces teachers to grow with the technology that so many of their students will already be accustomed to.

Teachers can use technology to their advantage for many reasons.  It gives an alternate approach for learning and sometimes that helps the students learn easier.  It can also just be used as a reinforcement of ideas and topics that had been covered in class. 

It is very crucial that teachers keep up one step ahead of their students, so that when questions arise they can be answered.  But while using the internet as a tool teachers must be careful that they use sites that do no contain controversial things, and make sure that they are accurate

Example: If a teacher talks about the different states that make up the United States and where they are located, the teacher could locate a game online that would help reinforce the ideas possibly in the form of a game.  Also when discussing a different culture you could get your students pen pals from another country, but thanks to technology they could do it over e-mail instead of waiting for weeks at a time to receive letters back.

V.  Technology Research Tools

            It is important to help your students comprehend this standard on many different levels.  Once they can use this  as a tool it will open up many opportunities for them to broaden their horizon.

            Research no longer has to be strictly out of books, thanks to the internet which has widely expanded the amount of information available to the general public.

Example:  Students use research in so many different ways anymore.  It can be used for research papers, group projects, along with many other homework assignments and projects.
