 | Chung Ling Soo | Was an American magician who competed against Chinese magician Ching Ling Foo. Both magicians called themselves "The Original Chinese Conjurer." In their competition, Ching Ling Foo challenged Chung Ling Soo to perform 10 of his 20 tricks. Ching Ling Foo never arrived for the date of their competition. |
 | Harry Houdini | Born in Hungary, Houdini moved to the United States as an infant. His straight jacket escape turned him into a very popular magician. In other magic acts, he excaped from a box set underwater and from being buried alive in the ground. These acts are why Houdini is called an "escape artist." |
 | Adelaide Herrmann | Known as the "Queen of Magic," she toured with her husband in the late 1800s. After his death, she continued to do magic shows on her own. Her illusion acts were famous for having large, beautifully decorated stages. |
