This is my reflection on these two articles about the NETS Standards:

NETS Standards for Teachers
Standard 1: TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS
Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts.

This standard is very important  to demonstrate compentency in as a teacher because your students will feel comfortable with technology as well, the students will trust you more if you seem to understnad what you are doing, and the only way to teach childlren new things in technology is for you as a teacher to understand and know how to do those things.
The first reason to demonstrate competency in this standard is because if you look like you know what your doing and are having fun doing it then the child will want to learn how to do use the technology as well and they will trust you.  When children see that the teacher is having an easy time using technology and having fun they will then also want to know how to use it and have a fun time doing so.
Also, if you are trying to teach the children how to use this technology aspect and you can't figure it out yourself how are you suppose to teach them?  As a teacher you need to fully understand how to use the technology in order to teach it.  This is the same as it would be with any other subject, in math you can't teach the students how to do the problem if you dont know how to solve it.

Some good ways to show technology competency and understanding to children is to make a WebQuest for your students to do and also develop a Virtual Field Trip for the students to go on.  These two examples would be great for the students to see your understanding of technology.

NETS Standards for Children
Standard 2: Social, ethical, and human issues
  • Students understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology.
  • Students practice responsible use of technology systems, information, and software.
  • Students develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity

This standard for students I believe is the most important one, the standard says that studetns will practivce responsible use of technology systems, information and softaware; develop posititve attitudes toward technology.  These two things are extremely important when dealing with technology.  For instance, if you are using a technology aspect that deals with the internet then you will have to know that the students understand how to use quality websites on the internet and also not get into any of those bad websites.  The same goes for developing a positive attitude towards technology, because technology can be very difficult and hard to learn sometimes the students have to go in having a positive attitude and watnt to learn even if it is difficult at times.

Some good ways to show this positive attitude, and responsible use is to have the children show you what are good quality websites and which are not, as well as having the children design their own Word Acrostic
