My Reflections on ISTE NETS Standards
NETS for Teachers Standards

Content Area 1 is the are that I
believe is the most important for teachers to demonstrate competency
in. Content Area 1 states that Teachers
demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations
and concepts. I think this category is the most imporant one,
what you possess and show to your children as a teacher is greatly
admired and looked upon. If the teacher knows what he/she is
doing when it comes to technology then the students have trust and
confidence that they too can learn the technology that is being
taught. The student will also feel as though they have somebody
that they can turn to to ask questions to if need be. Let's face
it if a teacher doesnt know how to do the project that he/she is
teaching, why are the students even going to bother to try and learn
how to do it?
To demonstrate their competancy
in this category the teacher could show the children how to make a
webquest or a digital photostory. If he/she models this first
then the children will have something to go by and be enticed to start
the project themselves.

The category I
believe is the most important for students to show competancy in would
be category 5. Category 5 is Technology research tools and this
category states that students must use technology to locate, evaluate,
and collect information from a variety of sources. Students must
use technology tools to process data and report results. Students
must evaluate and select new information resources and technological
innovations based on the appropriateness of specific tasks. I
believe this category is the most important for students because they
will need to know how to do use technological tools for research for
the rest of their lives. So for the students to show competancy
in this will be of the upmost importance.
To demonstrate their
competency in this category the students could make a research and
reflection powerpoint or a webquest, in both instances the student must
use multiple technological resources to finish the project.
