Reading Assignment 4
Multimedia
in the Classroom
According to the Multimedia in the Classroom
website, multimedia is "the integration of text, graphics, animation,
sound, and/or video. Some examples include students using
spreadsheets, students creating digital movies, and the creation of
class websites.
Multimedia can be useful in the classroom because it
easily lends itself to group interaction, students can work
collaboratively on large projects that would take much longer if done
individually. Multimedia also gives students multiple ways
to express their knowledge, solve problems, revise their own work, and
construct knowledge. Using multimedia, students learn real world
skills pertaining to technology, the value of teamwork, and how to
present information so that it is interesting.
To implement multimedia in the classroom, the
following steps needed to be followed:
- Decide
- Design
- Deliver
- Evaluate
Decide
involves deciding whether multimedia will work for what you want to do
and what you expect to get out of it. Design entails figuring out
how students will be grouped, what the lesson will be, and what you
have to work with. Deliver is the process of facilitating the
activities. And evaluate asks what form assessment will take.
Obviously according to this article and the many
others we have read, multimedia can have a huge benefit to both
students and teachers if implemented correctly. After reading
these articles, we have many resources to work with when we become
teachers and want to implement technology in the classrooms. I
feel much more comfortable not only with implementing technology in the
classroom but also with discussing and proving the worth of using
multimedia in the classroom.
