Project #8: Reflections on the
Learning Journey of Technology
Throughout the semester I
have grown very comfortable with several different forms of technology
as a result of this course. Now, when something goes wrong with a
program, I know what to look for instead of just being aggravated and
frustrated. This course has given me experiences in many different
aspects of technology and broadened my understanding of common programs
that I have used throughout my education.
I am extremely comfortable
with using the program NVU, and also with publishing my work.
Previously before this course, I had to make a website, and I can
honestly say it was one of the worst experiences I've had at SUNY
Cortland. However, that was because I did not have proper
experience in the training of creating a website. After Shufungs's
class, I am now very comfortable with making websites, and actually
enjoy doing it! I am so aware that when things go wrong, it is usually
a tiny error and a matter of retracing steps. I also learned how
to use the New Microsoft Word 08' Program, which for the past couple
months I have dreaded using at the library. However, now that I am
familiar with the set up, I actually prefer to use Microsoft 8.
Although this project was fun, I did have some difficulties. One of the
major frustrations I had was the fact that everything would work on my
computer, and then as soon as I checked it on a different computer some
of the links were broken. However, most of the time there were minor
errors and the changes were easy to fix. The majority of this
project was completed by myself, which I enjoyed because I could
do my own designs. However, for the Elementary School Project and the
Web Quest, I worked with four other classmates. I liked this as well
because the work was split up, and all of our ideas came together. In
terms of learning, I feel that working by yourself is more beneficial
because you are forced to learn and find things out on your own,
instead of just having another student do something for you. However,
working with other partners is also interesting because often you can
learn from them as well. For future teaching, I am excited to use these
programs because they are easy and fun to use. As a teacher, I
will want my students to be technology advanced. In today's
society, technology scares people, and it should not. A goal of mine
would be for my students to feel comfortable and confident in using
computers and different programs.
