Allocetraria oakesiana

 

Yellow-green foliose lichen. Broad concave lobes. raised margins with abundant capitate white soredia. Upper surface covered in black pycnidia. Lower surface light tan-brown with sparse rhizines. medulla white with apothecia rarely forming. Cortex with usnic acid (KC+ yellow). This foliose lichen is corticolous on both coniferous and deciduous trees. The specimen pictured above was collected from a white ash (Fraxinus americana) in the secondary succession forest area.
