Primary squamules persistant and dominant. Delicately incised and ascending. Podetia short with brown apothecia. Apothecia may form directly on squamules. Thallus with fumarprotocetraric acid (P+ Red).Found on soil, rocks, and at the bases of trees. This specimen was found on the base of an eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) in the climax forest area.
