Thallus consisting mainly of squamules. Medium sized, lobed olive green above and whitish below and at times yellowish orange at the base. Finely sorediate at upturned margins. Thallus with Thamnolic acid (P+ Orange, K+ Deep yellow).Found in northern temperate forests on rotting logs, bases of trees, and soil rich in humus. Found more commonly in the climax forest, which is where this specimen was collected, from the base of an eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis).
