Graphis scripta

 

White crustose lichen, forming lirellae which are raised. Spores 8-11 celled.While this species is very common in the climax forest areas on smooth barked trees like beech (Fagus grandifolia), hornbeam (Carpinus caroliniana), and yellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis), it can also be found in low light areas of the secondary succession forest. This specimen was collected from Betula alleghaniensis in the climax forest area.
