Melanelia subaurifera

 

Brown, broad lobed foliose lichen. Upper surface olive green. Smooth and rugose with laminal soralia containing granular soredia. Also with cylindrical isida. Lower surface pale to tan and moderately rhizinate. Medulla with lecanoric acid ( C+ red).Common in temperate forests, found in both secondary succession and climax forest areas. This specimen was collected from an apple tree (Malus domestica) in a well-lit portion on the edge of the secondary succession forest area.
