Mineral-grey foliose lichen. very common. narrow lobes with white reticulate edges. Rhizines black and medulla white. Apothecia and pycnidia rare. Marginal and laminal soralia present. Medulla with salazinic acid complex (K+ yellow > blood-red) (P+ orange).Very common in secondary succession forest and common in climax forest area. Readily colonizes trees that are spaced out and receive relatively high amounts of light. This specimen was collected from an apple tree in the old orchard area on the edge of the secondary succession forest area in Hoxie Gorge Preserve.
