Peltigera canina

 

Large lobed, brown foliose lichen. Sorediate looking isidia as well as irregular isidia. Lower surface tan with flocculent rhizines. Lobes upturned at the margins. No lichen substances.Rare to this area, this species is found at more northern latitudes on soil, mosses, and rocks at tree bases. During the coarse of the survey this specimen was the only one discovered; which it was at the rocky base of a basswood tree (Tilia americana) in the climax forest area.
