Phaeophyscia rubropulchra

 

Mineral-grey thallus with narrow lobes. Soredia marginal and coarse, sometimes becoming isidiod. The medula is characteristically orange red ( see abrasion in photo above) Common. Medulla with skyrin (K+ purple).Common in northeastern forests this species is typically found directly on standing trees. Found in both the climax and secondary succession forest areas though more common in the secondary succession forest.
