Mineral-grey foliose lichen rarely forming apothecia. Lobes form ascending inflated ‘helmet’ structures as well as brown-tipped cilia. Soredia inside helmet structures. No lichen substances.This lichen is uncommon in both forest areas especially climax forest. Requiring high light this lichen will be found along and edge of a forest or in a thin area within the forest. This specimen was collected from white ash (Fraxinus americana) in the secondary succession area.
