New Wanchai Ferry™ Chinese Dinner Kits Unlock the Secret to Chinese Cooking at Home

General Mills Launches New Brand to Bring Quality Chinese Meals Home

05/01/2007

It’s now possible to cook outside the take-out box. The new Wanchai Ferry™ Chinese Dinner Kits make it easier than ever to prepare and enjoy America’s most widely eaten restaurant cuisine. With four premium varieties to choose from, consumers can create the authentic tastes of their favorite Chinese restaurant meals in less than thirty minutes.

For the first time, the Wanchai Ferry™ brand of products made popular in Asia will be available in America. Hong Kong native Madame Kin Wo Chong founded Wanchai Ferry™ thirty years ago when she began selling her homemade dumplings along the city’s busy Wanchai Ferry pier.

Wanchai Ferry™ Chinese Dinner Kits come in bright red packaging shaped like the recognizable Chinese take-out containers, making them easy to spot in the ethnic food section in grocery stores. With a suggested retail price of $4.79, the affordable dinner kits can provide up to six servings each when one pound of chicken is added, and can be customized with added vegetables or alternate proteins such as shrimp or beef.

Varieties of Wanchai Ferry™ Chinese Dinner Kits include restaurant favorites like Sweet & Sour Chicken, Spicy Garlic Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken and Cashew Chicken. Each comes with premium ingredients, including Jasmine rice, sauce, seasonings and a specialty ingredient, to create a harmony of taste, aroma, and texture as envisioned by Madame Chong.

“Numerous products offer turnkey Italian and Mexican meals, but this is the first time that a dinner kit makes high-quality Chinese cuisine convenient for home cooks,” said Bruce von Stein, Marketing Director for Wanchai Ferry™. “The quality, convenience and serving size sets Wanchai Ferry Chinese Dinner Kits apart from other ethnic meal kits.”

The popularity of Chinese cuisine has increased in recent years. And while it is the most frequently eaten ethnic cuisine in restaurants, it is prepared at home much less often than other ethnic foods such as Mexican or Italian. “The new Wanchai Ferry™ dinner kits address some of the barriers for home cooks: lack of know-how and ease of preparation, ingredient availability and existing product quality,” added von Stein.

The Wanchai Ferry™ Chinese Dinner Kits will be available at all major grocery stores nationwide in the summer of 2007 and will be shelved in the ethnic food section of most stores. For more information, visit www.WanchaiFerry.com
