General Mills Advances on IDG’s Computerworld Best Places to Work in IT List
06/27/2007
IDG’s Computerworld magazine recently named General Mills as one of the best places to work in information technology (IT). General Mills has made the Computerworld Best Places to Work in IT list for eight years, moving up to No. 7 this year from No. 10 in 2006.
"We strive to be an employer of choice in our field by offering great career opportunities, effective development and benefit plans in an inclusive work environment," said Terry Brown, General Mills vice president of Information Systems (IS). “This ranking affirms that what we have to offer compares favorably in an industry that continues to be very competitive.”
Key initiatives contributing to General Mills’ higher employee satisfaction results in 2007 include the development of a new employee rewards and recognition program, cross-culture communication sessions led by the General Mills IS Diversity Champions employee committee, and the launch of a mentoring program for women in IS.
Since 1994, Computerworld’s annual Best Places to Work in IT feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive survey regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development training and retention.
“IT executives face a number of issues that have made their work environments increasingly challenging,” said Don Tennant, editor in chief, Computerworld. “This year’s top 100 companies have figured out how to give IT workers the sense of fulfillment and recognition they need to stay put in this changing economy.”General Mills also earned a “best of the best,” ranking in the top 10 for two subcategories: career development and diversity.
