The new Yoplait Kids Yogurt Drink contains Omega 3-DHA, similar to Yoplait Kids Yogurt in a cup. Omega 3-DHA is an important nutrient that supports brain growth during early childhood development stages. DHA, a specific type of Omega-3 fatty acid, is a nutrient found in the diet; however it’s only available naturally in a limited number of foods, such as eggs and some types of fish. Yoplait Kids Yogurt Drink also contains 25% less sugar than the average of leading kids’ yogurts and has no artificial flavors or sweeteners.
Available nationally in dairy cases this month, the Yoplait drink comes in four kid-pick flavors: Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Mixed Berry and Banana. Each package contains 6, 3.1 oz bottles at a suggested retail price of $2.99.
“We think both kids and their parents will be pleased with the new yogurt drinks,” said Phillip Zinda, Yoplait marketing. “With calcium, Vitamins A and D and now Omega 3-DHA, Yoplait Kids has broadened the dietary benefits for young yogurt lovers.”
According to Suzanne Skapyak, MS, RD, a dietitian at the General Mills Bell Institute of Health and Nutrition, Omega-3 DHA is a good type of fat and an important nutrient. ” DHA serves as a building block for brain and eye development in the first years of life,” Skapyak explained. “As a young child grows and develops, the amount of Omega-3 DHA in the brain and eye rapidly increases, because it is a major structural component of both of these organs.”
