Let the Countdown to Soup Season Begin!

New Progresso® Light Serves Up Innovation in the Soup Aisle With an Endorsement From Weight Watchers® and a POINTS® Value of 0 Per Serving

Progresso Light, the only nationally branded light soup in the category, and Weight Watchers will bring a canned soup with a POINTS® value of 0 to consumers nationwide this August.  Clocking in at 60 calories and 4 grams of fiber per serving, five new Progresso Light flavors are chock full of delicious, premium vegetables such as corn, diced tomatoes, green beans and peppers. The five different varieties blend Progresso culinary seasonings with satisfying ingredients like pasta, rice and beans. To add to the excitement, Progresso Light is the first consumer packaged product in any grocery category to carry the Weight Watchers endorsement with 0 POINTS value per serving.

“Progresso Light soups deliver the quality and value that Weight Watchers is proud to recommend to those who are trying to make better food choices in their daily lives,” said Hugh Dever, Weight Watchers senior licensing manager.  “The new soups offer consumers, who don’t want to sacrifice taste, a delicious and sensible food choice with fewer calories than other ready-to-serve soups.”

In addition to 4 grams of fiber, each 60 calorie serving of Progresso Light delivers a full serving of vegetables.  “With five unique flavors it’s easy to see how 0 will count for a lot this soup season,” explained Liz Nordlie, Progresso Soup marketing director.

“Progresso Light blends good health and great taste to create a satisfying soup that consumers can enjoy as part of a light lunch, an accompaniment at dinner, or that comforting snack at the end of the day,” said Nordlie. “We’re pleased to offer a whole new option in ready-to-serve soups, and we’re excited to have Weight Watchers’ trusted endorsement on the front of our label.”

Progresso Light flavors include: Italian-Style Vegetable; Vegetable and Noodle; Savory Vegetable Barley; Homestyle Vegetable and Rice; and Southwestern-Style Vegetable. The new soups will be available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $2.49 per 18.5 oz can.
