My Hometown Helper Extends a Hand to Improve Communities Nationwide

For a Limited Time, Communities Can Apply for a Grant at www.myHometownHelper.com

08/01/2007

Today, Hamburger Helper kicks off its 2007 “My Hometown Helper” grant program, a nationwide initiative that helps local groups make a difference in their own community. People looking to improve their hometown—whether by building a new playground, funding new band uniforms or expanding town sidewalks—can visit www.myHometownHelper.com to apply online for a one-time grant to help fund their project. Communities looking for “a helping hand” are encouraged to submit their entries from August 1 to September 30.

“There are many towns and cities across the country looking to improve their communities, whether it’s revamping the town library or beautifying the streets,” said Hyun Mee Graves, Marketing Manager for Hamburger Helper. “We’re committed to helping these communities and want to find those that need ‘a hand’ the most.

Between August 1 and September 30, applicants can submit an essay of 250 words or less describing how the grant would help with their community project. Award amounts will range from $500 to $15,000 and all requests for funding must be sponsored by a charitable organization, municipal or civic organization or a public school. Funds will be awarded based on the merit of the project, including its impact on, and support within, the community.

Applicants are encouraged to share their “My Hometown Helper” grant entry project page with friends, neighbors and family, who can post comments online showing support for the project. Individuals who apply are encouraged to visit www.myHometownHelper.com on November 15, to see projects selected to receive a grant.

Last year, “My Hometown Helper” gave away more than $100,000 in grants and helped communities install lights for a football field, clean up a local river and purchase ambulance equipment, among other great projects.
