Long-Lasting, Holiday-Cookie Traditions Made a Simple Delight by Betty Crocker®

Start a New Tradition by Going Online to Decorate Virtual Cookies While Benefiting Toys for Tots®

11/27/2007

Whether it’s the smile on a child’s face as they eagerly await Santa’s appearance or the twinkle in their eye as they enjoy the magic of the season, nothing says the holidays like the sweet aroma that comes from a batch of freshly baked holiday cookies. Since 1921, Betty Crocker has been a part of this tradition, and this year, is proud to share two new ways of creating family holiday baking memories.

Starting New Holiday Baking Traditions
While baking cookies with family and friends is a tradition that goes back centuries, this year, families can enjoy a new take on this classic ritual.  It is now easier and faster to get to the fun of decorating with Betty Crocker cookie mixes. Preparation is quick and easy – the only other ingredients needed are butter or oil, an egg and water – and they are ready in only 20 minutes. Available in ten varieties, it’s now easier to bake holiday favorites such as, Peanut Butter Blossoms and Easy Spritz Cookies and create new favorites such as, Noir Bars and Elegant Almond Bars.

Additionally, Betty Crocker is making it possible for families to create virtual cookies to benefit a good cause. By visiting www.BakeLifeSweeter.com, families can decorate a virtual cookie and e-mail it to a friend. For every Cookie eCard sent by December 25, 2007, Betty Crocker will make a 10-cent donation to Toys for Tots, up to $25,000. Along with decorating a virtual cookie online, the Betty Crocker site also offers a variety of recipes for the new cookie mixes. This time spent online will not only be quality time spent with family, but also will help those in need.

“The holidays are a special time for many families,” said Anton Vincent, marketing director for Betty Crocker. “But for some families, the holidays are not an easy time. That’s why Betty Crocker is pleased to contribute to Toys for Tots and help make the holidays a little easier for families in need.”

Toys For Tots And General Mills Partnership
“We want to thank Betty Crocker for its kindness and generosity during this holiday season,” said Bill Grein, vice president of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. “Through donations like this, the Toys for Tots Program continues to grow and is able to provide gifts to those less fortunate. General Mills also is helping families around the country kick start or continue their own holiday traditions.”  Betty Crocker Cookie Mixes
Betty Crocker offers ten delicious cookie mixes including sugar, chocolate chip, oatmeal, peanut butter and for a limited time, gingerbread. Available in grocery stores nationwide and retailing for $2.20, each package yields three dozen two-inch cookies.

About Betty Crocker
Since her creation in 1921, Betty Crocker has been one of the strongest brand icons in the food industry. A brand associated with quality and trust, Betty Crocker and the red spoon symbol appear on more than 300 General Mills products including ready-to-spread frostings and mixes that make some of the country’s best cakes, brownies, cookies, muffins and other baked goods. As a pioneer in the dessert mix category, General Mills was one of the first companies to introduce layer cake mix in 1947; it did so under the Betty Crocker name. This started a revolution in baking, providing homemakers with a convenient, reliable way to replicate the quality and taste of “homemade” without the hassle.
