Reflection

Before walking into the EDU 314, I already had a negative attitude towards computers and I was apprehensive.  This is due to the fact that I am not tech-savvy at all.  I knew the basics about a computer and I wasn’t interested in learning how to do more.   I lacked confidence with computers and I had the assumption I was always going to be frustrated with this class no matter what. However, I have truly grown as a result of this course.  Towards the end of this course I finally gained confidence, a positive attitude towards computers and developed new and improved computer skills.  The skills I have developed will help me in the future.  I believe that I have mastered just about every single tool, resource and system that I was introduced to.
Throughout this course, I learned the importance of trying to stay positive and to never give up on a project no matter how frustrating it may be.  Computer wise, the most important skill I learned was to keep everything in one folder.  If pictures and/or documents were not placed in the same folder and I tried to upload them onto the program Nvu, they would not appear on the site I created.  Thus, it was important to keep all of my saved documents organized and saved in the same file.  Another important skill I learned was to save titles without capital letters and spaces.  This enabled me to find documents and projects easily if I had forgotten the exact title I had originally given it.  With the skills I stated above and the many others I learned throughout this course, they will help me with my future career as a teacher.

As a future teacher, I now obtain the skills to create a school webpage, create flyers and brochures, create a digital story and be able to create a site that can be posted on the internet for others to view.  Because I have worked alone and with others, I can help my other future colleagues learn the same skills I possess.  For instance, I worked on my imaginary elementary school website by myself.  I enjoy working alone because I didn’t have to make accommodations with others or compromise when a decision could not be made. I was able to be independent and make my own choices.   Yet, when I was struggling with a project that I was working alone on, I could rely on my class mates to help me.  For the majority of my projects, I worked alone except for one.   The project I worked with a partner was Webquest.   Although I preferred to work alone, working with a partner has its advantages too.  More ideas are created for a project and the work load can be cut in half.  Working together allowed us to get more done because we were able to work on more than one item at a time and we were able to share ideas and comments.  As a result, we created a really fun and educational Webquest about the digestive system for kids!  Generally, I would conclude that I like to work alone; however, I love having someone to share ideas with and to provide constructive criticism.  I believe having an outside look on something is very useful.

Overall, I am proud of myself with the accomplishments I have made as well as the projects I have created.  The valuable skills I have obtained throughout this course will be carried with me in my future career as a teacher.  I now enjoy working with computers and I am very grateful with the technology skills I have gained through this course.
