Project #5
Using Special Features of MS Word to Enliven Your
Instruction
Annotation
For all three parts of Project 5 we used a variety
of features offered through Microsoft Word. For part one,
we created a word acrostic using Word Art on Microsoft Word. I
learned how to vertically set up my name on a page and then insert a
word that described me using the letters in my name. This was
very fun and could be a very helpful and creative tool to integrate
into the classroom. I could have my future students use this
program by making their own poems with their names and they could find
words that describe themselves. This could be used as an
introduction activity to do with my students the first couple weeks of
school so they can present their poems to their classmates and their
classmates will learn about that student from the poem they created
using this program. I don't really think they students will learn
better by using this program but I do think it will help them to be
more creative with their own projects.
The second part was an educational handout created
on Microsoft Word. We included a border in our handout and used
the feature watermark for the background of this handout.
Watermark allowed a picture to appear as the background and then you
could select a washout percentage to fade the picture so its not as
bright and distracting from the words I put on it. I made up a
handout that will be useful for my future as an educator. I
created an introduction activity where the students had questions
listed on the handout that they needed to ask another student which
will help the students learn about eachother. I will be be able
to use this feature on Microsoft Word to create handouts in the future
for my classroom, such as when I need to send home parent letters or
reminders. This was a useful tool for me to learn because I will
be using it in the feature and it will be of benefit to my students
depending on what information is offered on the handouts.
The third part of Project 5 used Microsoft Word
also. We used a feature to create tables which we made into
seperate cards. This was the first time I used this feature on
Microsoft Word. I will definitely be able to use this feature in
the future for projects in school and even as a teacher. We
created trading cards which will be beneficial to use in our future
classroom. I choose to do alphebet cards for kindergarten because
that is a grade I am interested in teaching in the future. On one
side of the trading card I inserted an image and then had the letter
that image started with and the what the image was. These trading cards
will be beneficial for students becasue it is a way they can memorize
and study new information.
