Reflection
Objective 1: Developed
an understanding of the scope and breadth of mathematical topics and ideas that
need to be covered in the elementary school curriculum.
In creating this standards-based lesson
plan, I developed an understanding of the scope and breadth of mathematical topics
and ideas that need to be covered in the elementary school curriculum. This
lesson was written with the NYS MST 3 standards in mind. This lesson plan meets
the following NYS MST 3 standards: 4.RP.1 : Use representations
to support mathematical ideas. 4.G.1 : Identify and
name polygons, recognizing that their names are related to the number of sides
and angles (triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon and octagon).
The standards on which this lesson is based were determined by the grade
level of my practicum class, the fourth grade. Upon reviewing the standards
based book, Investigations in Number, Data and Space: Picturing Polygons, I chose this
lesson as it was relevant to the material currently being reviewed in my host
classroom.
