Reflection
Objective 2: Developed the skills to construct interesting, hands-on,
investigative mathematics activities which support the NYS and NCTM Standards,
address important topics in the elementary school mathematics curriculum, and
help children develop conceptual understandings of mathematics.
Math night was one of the most
impacting experiences of my young teaching career. The math night lesson is
proof that I have developed the skills to construct interesting, hands-on,
investigative mathematics activities which support the NYS and NCTM Standards,
address important topics in the elementary school mathematics curriculum, and
help children develop conceptual understandings of mathematics.
The game which I planned was The Horse
Race Game. This game revolves around the principles of probability. The game meets
NYS MST 3 standards
which follow:
4.RP.5 Justify general claims or conjectures,
using manipulatives, models and expressions.
4.S.2 Collect data using observations,
surveys, and experiments and record appropriately
The idea of Math Night was to develop a game that involved NYS MST 3
standards for grades 3-6.
