21st Century Literacies
21st Century Literacies
We live in a world today where information is just a click away. The internet has become the new library for students to readily access information. Students outside of school are already familiar with the ongoing technological advances in today’s world. Incorporating technology into the classroom enables students to become more engaged in learning the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st Century. The skills that students will be learning will not only help them throughout their educational careers but also whatever job profession they go into.
The 21st century skills involve developing and creating a students ability to read, write and listen. In the classroom, students will learn how to transform traditional ELA standards into more thought provoking and exciting ways. This will enable students to use more creativity and critical thinking skills which will help them not only on state exams but will allow them to read across multiple forms of media in which they can identify/ understand the content and then transform that knowledge into their everyday lives. This skill is crucial since it is in use today. My job as a teacher is to teach my students how to critically think, interact with and create multiple types of media. Bridging the gap between the classroom and the outside world in which students live in is essential for success in the 21st Century.
