So I'm working on my 2d sidescroller concept.
Here are some basics I've worked out.
On an asteroid in the far depths of space lie the ruins of a forgotten civilization. Barbarians have inhabitted these sacred ruins for countless generations.
When an unknown empire descends on the asteroid and threatens the sacred ruins, a forgotten hero is forced to battle against the undoing of all he holds dear.
Current Sketchbook:
This is a character I'm working on. He's a standard footsoldier for the unknown empire. He can be likened to a goomba from super mario brothers in terms of gameplay.

These goons travel the galaxy acquiring and controlling energy.
*note- they have devolved somewhat into terrifying iron juggernauts shot out of a cannon from their home planet.
*timing puzzle note- since they roll their heads will only surface for jumping for a relatively brief window.

So I've refined the beginning scenerio. The ruin village is holding its annual festival. There is much merriment as this year's equinox marks the coming of age ceremony for Relmel, an orphan who has become a beloved fixture of the community.
The village waits in anticipation as the ruins allign with the alpha planet and a meteor plummets through the atmosphere and crashes on the dark side of the dwarf planet.
War juggernauts emerge and head for the ruin village leaving mayhem and terror in wake. The iron gollum belches poison fire and hobbles single mindedly toward the ruin center.
In the wake of the chaos Relmel is seized by the village sage who tells him it's his destiny to protect the village and to hurry before the juggernaut reaches the sacred ruins and all is lost.
2:00 minute timer starts and the level begins as a chase through the wrecked festival.
