Multimedia is “the integration of text, graphics, animation, sound, and/or video”.  Students can be engaged in multimedia in the classroom in many ways, such as by using concept-mapping software to brainstorm, using a spreadsheet or graphing calculator to record data and produce charts and by making a personal or class website.
There are many advantages of using multimedia in a classroom.  This can involve multiple intelligences, promote group work and allow students to learn in a new way.  There are steps to implement multimedia activities.  First, present clear goals and expectations and provide adequate structure, so that students understand what you want them to do.  Next, be sure to keep students actively involved by giving them enough to do.  Also, you should assign “tech buddies” and let students help the teacher so that everyone can work together to complete a task and have multiple perspectives of it.  Multimedia seems like a great idea for a classroom.
