Technology and computer education is becoming increasingly significant.  Research shows, according to the article, that “nine in ten children between the age of five and 17 use computers” and that an even higher amount of teenagers use the Internet for school-related work.  The article also reports that “virtually all U.S. schools are connected to the Internet”.  With such an increase in familiarity and access to technology, it is a must that educators increase their knowledge and skills of computers and related technology as well.
Although children should still be taught and practice their writing and hands-on applications, it is important for children, with increasing access and value of technology in our society, to become literate and interested in using the Internet and other related skills.  There is a broad range of information and subject matter available, as long as teachers and other caregivers are guiding and monitoring children's use, so that content will be relevant and meaningful.  Therefore, I believe all teachers should receive education about current and future technology, in order to be able to further their children's knowledge and fluency of the wide resources they have under their fingertips.
