Hi, My name is Kimberly Pace I am 21 years old. I’m in my senior
year of college at SUNY Cortland, on my way to becoming a Special Ed Teacher,
but still have more schooling to go before that happens. My philosophy on
teaching is “In a completely rational society, the best of us would aspire to
be teachers and the rest of us would have to settle for something less, because
passing civilization along from one generation to the next ought to be the
highest honor and the highest responsibility anyone could have!”
I am from Poughkeepsie, New York. I live with my parents and a dog.
I have an older brother who is on his way to starting his own family very
soon. My parents are my world and do everything for me to make me happy
and have taught me to respect elders and never take “NO” for an answer, to be
persistent in any task I take on. I don’t take life for granted and live
it to the fullest, I want to be able to look back on my life and say that I do
not regret anything. Small things make me happy, and I want to be able to
make others around me smile as much as I do.
I enjoy being outside. I am very much a country girl at heart. My
parents own a house out in the country and any chance I get to go there I take
because of how beautiful it is and the memories I have of it have
grown. I plan on this place being in my life forever and taking my
children and grand children there to experience the same things I have.
Along with being attracted to the outdoors, I love sports. Whether it is
playing them, watching them, or teaching them, they keep me active and will
always make me feel young. My favorite season would be early summer
because it is not too hot, but it is warm enough to swim still. I like
the late summer for the sole purpose of it being near my birthday. I
would have to say that winter is also a very good season, to play outside and
for me to re-teach myself to snowboard after having a couple months off.
I know I mentioned sports so here are a few of some that I have played.
In high School I did Basketball my freshman year, Track my freshman year, and I
Rowed for all four year. Rowing was the main point in my high school
years, and I miss it still today and wish I was able to continue with it.
Since I started college I joined a new bunch of sports which I had always
wanted to do, but never had the time. At my old school, SUNY Cobleskill,
I was on the swim team. Although I got off to a slow start, I quickly
started to improve and become a much better swimmer. I swam with
Cobleskill for two years and enjoyed it very much. Since I have
transferred to Cortland I have not been able to enjoy these as much as I would
like, but right now my heart is with finishing college and starting my career
teaching. As for sports teams, I am a true New Yorker. Yankees and
Giants are the only names of importance in my house and worth watching. I
get it from my father.
My friends mean just as much to me as my family. While away at school, friends
are my family away from home and I would not trade one of them for
anything. There is not one best friend, but they are all my best friends
and will always be a part of my life. I am the typical college student
that likes to have fun, hang out around the house, go to movies, shop, and be a
bum whenever the chance comes around.
I hope to take away in my college
career an experience that I can share with everyone. The knowledge I gain
from teachers and peer to be able to use it in my teaching setting.
Hoping the children that I receive in the future, learn and have fun with me
and are able to move on and remember me and the knowledge that I gave them,
that I have received in my life from family, friends, teachers, and elders!
