Project # 8
My Reflections...
This
course is a very informative and helpful tool for me to use in the
future. I
feel I was lacking a lot of computer skills before taking this class.
My method of working with a computer was just clicking on random
links and tasks until I found my desired result. Now I have more
confidence in how the links work and where to find them. Over
the duration of the course, I have become very comfortable with using
Nvu, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Publisher, and Photo Story. At
first, I struggled with Nvu. I had trouble linking my pages and
getting them to publish. In fact, until recently, I had to have
another student walk me through the process at the beginning of each
class. Now I am able to perform both tasks independently and I
have a grasp on how they work as well. I had worked with
Microsoft previously, but not with either of the programs we used
in this class. Therefore I expanded my knowledge in Microsoft.
The final project we did, involving the use of Photo Story
3, was one I
enjoyed. It was great learning and exploring this technology on
my own. I feel it would
be a great idea to use in my future classroom both for myself and my
students. I can use it for presentations in the classroom and my
students can use it to make a "gift" for their parents. The only
aspect I am still unclear about is applying the music because it
needs to be in a certain format and not all of my music was compatible.
I will have to continue my learning with Photo Story 3.
Overall I had some successes and failures throughout the
semester, but nothing was so bad that I ever wanted to quit.
I feel it is immensely important for
everyone, especially young children, to be familiar and comfortable
with technology. I plan to use my ePortfolio when I go to job
interviews. I will continue to update it and to learn more
concepts, so I can stay current with the technology involved with all
of the programs. I will try to use them for future projects and
assignments whenever possible. I think this is a great way for
future employers, parents, and students to get to know me personally
and professionally, while witnessing some of my technical skills as
well. In my future classroom, I can use these programs for both
my students and for the parents. Microsoft Publisher will be an
excellent tool for sending out newsletters and flyers to keep the
parents informed of the things we are doing and learning in the
classroom. While I am still slightly unsure on using the tables,
I will definitely use the idea of designing a webquest for my students.
I thought it was such a great idea and by the time I have my
own classroom, most of my students will have a computer in their
homes. For those that still might not have their own computer, I
will make arrangements for them to stay after school to do the work.
I also think if they were to design a photo story for their
parents, they would learn a lot, and the family would have a keepsake
that would last better than a picture or some other kind of art work.
I am very glad this course was a
requirement for my degree. I would recommend that anyone take it
because it is all useful information that anyone could use, even if it
was just for a hobby. I wanted to take a basic level computer
class before I graduated and this was the perfect one. Even
though I still have a lot to learn and perfect, I have gained more
knowledge in the past few months than I thought was possible for this
non-trad student.
