When we read a novel, it is important to know about the author because it helps us understand the novel itself.
Task 7: Now that you have read the full interview with Hinton in the back of your book and her biography, it is your turn to be like Hinton. Think about a memory you have of something you saw in real life that you thought was wrong. Write a short story about this event. Think about who the characters are. Is there a conflict between them? Is their a dialogue between them? What is the climax? Is there a resolution? Where did all of this take place?
Remember that you are writing from your memory, so you should be writing from your point of view as the observer. However, if you’d like to write from another characters point of view, feel free to.
Remember the List of Active Verbs we discussed in class? Use them!
Also, try to incorporate tone in your short story. Since you will be talking about an event that was not good, would your tone be angry? Sad? Frustrated?
This could be the beginning of your own realistic novel! Remember, Hinton wrote hers when she was only 17!
Do you see or read about things like this in movies you see or other books you’ve read? Do you think it is important for books to tell about real life? Do you refer reading about realistic things or fantasy?
